On July 25, 2006 Major Paeta Derek Hess-von Kruedener was killed, murdered actually, in Lebanon. His position was 'mistakenly' bombed by the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces). He was a United Nations observer who was in an outpost that was occupied by the UN for thirty years.
Major Hess-von Kruedener was an acquaintance of mine. I trained with him while I was a member of the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment. He was one tough man. An impressive soldier. A father and husband.
Sir, I salute you and thank you for your service to my country. Hess, you will not be forgotten.
