I am still getting messed around by the insurance company for the replacement of my camera equipment, so I have dived into my collection of photographs and found this. Yeah sure Banff is great and all, but you cannot go there without stopping in at Lake Minnnewanka. Truly beautiful. This will definately become a favourite stop for us. Next time we will pack a lunch and stake out a spot on it's shores and soak it all in.
The lake is 28 km long and 142 m deep, making it the longest lake in the mountain parks of the Canadian Rockies this is the result of a power dam at the west end of the lake. The most recent dam (1941) raised the lake 30 m and submerged the resort village of Minnewanka Landing that had been present there since 1888.
Because of the presence of the submerged village, submerged bridge pilings, and submerged dam (the one from 1912) the lake is popular among recreational scuba divers.
